Central Okanagan business takes props experience to new level

Hanging with Walter White

When Richard Johns was seven years old and living in Kingston, Ont., he had two dreams.

One, he wanted to work in movies as a set or prop designer.

Two, he wanted to be a police officer.

“I get the best of both worlds, and two dreams I had have come true,” Johns said this week.

He’s not exactly a movie set or prop designer, but he does run a business called Empire Movie Props that will have a presence at next month’s Kelowna Fan Experience. His full-time job is as a Westbank First Nation law enforcement officer, but he spends most of his free time running Empire Movie Props.

“It was just a little hobby,” Johns said, “and it’s turning into a business.”
