Vernon BMX receives a $10,500 from 100 Men Who Give A Damn

Give a damn about BMX

It seems like people give a damn about BMX in this town.

The Vernon BMX Club was the lucky recipient of a $10,500 donation from the 100 Men Who Give A Damn – an organization of men who meet four times a year and choose a charity to donate to. There are three charities that make a pitch to the group on why they should be chosen, and then a vote decides which charity gets the donation.

It's safe to say the BMX club was thrilled about being chosen as this meeting's winner.

"After meeting the other charities that were there I was blown away by how amazing their causes were," says Shylo Orchard, president of the Vernon BMX Club. "I can't believe we were chosen, but I'm so glad we were."

The funds are needed to upgrade the track's clubhouse, which hasn't changed since it was built in the 1980s. The clubhouse is home to the track's washrooms, first aid area, administration, storage space and canteen.

"Our toilets are the same as they were in the 80's, and our plumbing and drainage systems too," says Orchard. "The electrical work looks like it's a cobweb of wires too."

The BMX club is open to all ages, and is regarded as one of the top tracks in the country.
