Woman caught on camera stealing from home's deck

Woman loots freezer

A woman has been caught on camera entering a Kelowna backyard and stealing items from the home's deck.

Renata Mills says her family received an alert from her camera system on the outside of her house on Rose Avenue Wednesday at 1:20 p.m.

In the video, a woman with pink hair is seen walking up the stairs onto the deck, making a light attempt to knock on the door. When no one answers, she is seen taking a bag of recyclables and food from the outdoor shelves and freezer.

According to Mills, after the woman exited the deck she attempted to enter the shed, but luckily it was locked.

"We've lived in that area for 20 years and we've seen it change, and over the years we'd had a number of intruders up on the deck or in the backyard," says Mills. "We're not surprised but we've taken steps such as the installation of these cameras around our home so at least we can capture anybody trying to get into the house."

Mills believes if she had left her door unlocked, the woman would have entered her home. However, because nothing of value was taken from her home, she did not contact the RCMP.

"In terms of taking the food, realistically, if she's hungry have at ‘er, but it's just that coming up on the deck that brazenness...It ticks me off," she says.

Despite the incident, Mills still loves where she lives but believes being near the hospital has something to do with the increase in intruders she's had in recent years.

"I love the location, it's so walkable, it's so close to the lake but we're by the hospital and we kind of understand that you're going to get all sorts of individuals when they're released from the hospital."
