3rd victim of fatal crash near Kamloops dies

3rd crash victim dies

A five-year-old boy who was involved in a fatal crash that also claimed the life of his brother and father has now died.

Mike Cochlin, 47, was driving his two sons Quinn and Liam home to Calgary after a road trip in B.C. when their vehicle left the road crashing over a concrete barrier and down a steep embankment near Stump Lake on Sunday.

Mike died at the scene while Liam was rushed to Kamloops hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

In an update to GoFundMe Monday, family friend Amy Davies says Quinn has now also passed away.

“Quinn will be donating his heart, liver and kidneys tonight. He is a hero,” Davies said.

“The family appreciates, and is thankful for, all of the love and offers of support. In the near future there will be a time to celebrate the lives of Mike, Liam and Quinn.”

Immediately after the crash, RCMP erroneously reported Quinn’s death while he was still on life support.

The GoFundMe has already raised more than $60,000 for Erin Cochlin, wife to Mike and mother to Quinn and Liam.

Emergency crews were called to the crash at about 5:45 p.m. Sunday. Highway 5A was closed until about 1 a.m. while police investigated.

“Southeast District Central Interior Traffic Services and the BC Coroners Service continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision,” said RCMP.
