UBC, Faculty Association ratify new collective agreement

New agreement ratified

The University of British Columbia and the UBC Faculty Association have ratified a new collective agreement.

The agreement covers nearly 4,200 faculty members at both UBC Vancouver and UBC Okanagan, including professors, instructors, lecturers, sessional lecturers, librarians and program directors in extended learning.

The agreement includes:

* a three-year term (July 1, 2019, to June 30, 2022);

* general wage increases of 2 per cent, 2 per cent and 2 per cent; and

* modest funding increases for professional development of full faculty and sessional lecturers to further enhance learning for students, research innovations and productivity.

“The parties worked hard to achieve this Agreement and we believe it that contains many improvements that will benefit both the Faculty Association membership and the University,” said a joint statement from UBC president Santa J. Ono and Bronwen Sprout, president, UBC Faculty Association.

The agreement was reached under the government's “Sustainable Services Negotiating Mandate,” which has now covered 240,000 public-sector employees.
