Vernon RCMP smash truck window to apprehend suspect

The details involving the gas station takedown at Hunter's Gas & Grocery Tuesday night have been released.

Vernon RCMP received a call about a 32-year-old man at Hunter's who was in mental health distress. The police arrived on scene and took the man into custody.

"Police located the man at Hunter's Store and apprehended him under the Mental Health Act," says Cpl. Tania Finn, spokesperson for the Vernon RCMP. "He was transported to hospital in order to be treated by a doctor."

No more details regarding the case are being released at this time.

ORIGINAL: February 25, 6:49 p.m.

At about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday night, Vernon RCMP carried out a takedown of a suspect at Hunter's Gas & Grocery on Pleasant Valley Road.

The police approached the truck the suspect was in, smashed the window and pulled the person out of the vehicle. Shattered glass covered the right two spaces at the front of the store.

Police left the scene at about 6 p.m., with the tow truck pulling the Dodge pickup leaving shortly after.
