Man, 2 kids killed in crash

UPDATE Feb. 25

RCMP say the five-year old child involved in the crash is still alive, but in "grave condition."

ORIGINAL Feb. 24

A man and two children are dead after a single vehicle crash on Highway 5A south of Kamloops.

Emergency crews were called to the crash near Stump Lake Sunday at 5:45 p.m., arriving to find a car down a steep embankment near a curve in the road.

The driver of the vehicle, a 47-year-old male, was deceased at the scene. Two child passengers, ages eight and five, were rushed to hospital but later succumbed to their injuries.  All three deceased were from southern Alberta.

“Our thoughts are with the family at this very tragic time,” stated Cpl. Jodi Shelkie.  “The RCMP would like to remind motorists to always drive defensively and cautiously.”

The highway was closed until about 1 a.m. Monday to allow police and the BC Coroners Service to investigate.

“Southeast District Central Interior Traffic Services and the BC Coroners Service continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision,” said RCMP.
