Scorpions cancel gigs

Scorpions and Whitesnake have cancelled two dates on their joint tour of Australia and New Zealand due to a "medical emergency" and "logistical issues."

The bands were due to perform in Sydney and Brisbane in Australia on Saturday and Monday, and in Auckland, New Zealand, on Thursday, but have cancelled the Auckland and Brisbane dates and postponed the Sydney concert until Wednesday.

Announcements on promoters' Live Nation's Facebook page blamed the cancellations on "a medical emergency within the Scorpions tour party" and "insurmountable logistical issues," believed to refer to Scorpions frontman Klaus Meine's hospitalization with kidney stones.

He revealed that he had undergone an operation to remove the kidney stones at a Melbourne hospital after performing at the city's Rod Laver Arena last Wednesday.

"The bad news is... I have had kidney stone surgery in a Melbourne Hospital ... it was a very painful attack," he wrote in his post on Facebook on Saturday. "In the hospital they removed the stone, and put in a stent .... can you imagine how I feel right now?"

The star thanked doctors for taking care of him and apologized to fans in Sydney - pledging to reschedule, as the group eventually did.
