Kelowna's Artist in Residence program is accepting applications

The search is on for artists

The City of Kelowna's first "artist in residence" program is now accepting applications.

This inaugural program is searching for artists from all disciplines. Those interested have until March 29 to submit their expression of interest.

“Our Artist in Residence program is a new opportunity for artists to use their medium to stimulate thoughtful conversation and create something truly unique to our city,” says Christine McWillis, cultural services manager.

“Our intention with the launch of the program this year is to engage with the community on the topic of social inclusion through art and artistic expression.”

Two upcoming information sessions will be held where artists or artist collectives can learn more.

  • March 2 at the Kelowna Community Theatre Black Box from 12 to 1:30 p.m.
  • March 5 at the Parkinson Recreation Centre Gala Boardroom from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

Applicants must be living in Kelowna or the surrounding area for more than one year. However, the winning artist or artist collective must work in Kelowna during the duration of the project.

There are two phases in the selection process with a limited amount of artists chosen to advance to phase two. Artists who advance to phase two will receive $500 honorariums for the additional costs needed to prepare a project proposal along with a budget.
