Knife-wielding man arrested in Richmond Walmart standoff

Knife standoff at Walmart

A knife-wielding man was arrested in a police incident at a Richmond Walmart store Tuesday afternoon.

RCMP Cpl. Dennis Hwang says a male suspect is in custody.

“He barricaded himself inside the store with edged weapons,” said Hwang, adding that the store had to be evacuated with the surrounding area cordoned off.

“We contacted the Emergency Response Team, police dog services as well as a crisis negotiator.”

The man surrendered, and no one was injured during the incident.

Police were seen running up the escalator with one officer carrying what appears to be a rifle.

In another video taken inside by Marion Laramie, officers can be seen surrounding the man in the seafood and meat section.

Heavy police presence with multiple vehicles was seen at the store, and dozens of people could be seen standing outside in the parking lot during the incident.
