Injunction granted to stop protestors from blocking legislature

Blocking legislature barred

Those planning on blocking the entrances to the B.C. Legislature Friday will be up against a recently granted injunction.

On Thursday, the BC Supreme Court granted the the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of B.C. an injunction to restrict anyone from obstructing, intimidating or interfering with legislative staff, security or government workers on the legislature grounds, as reported by CTV News.

While the order authorizes police to arrest anyone contravening the order, demonstrators will be still be allowed on the legislature grounds.

Christopher Considine, the speaker's lawyer who argued for the injunction, told CTV News that anyone detained for breaching the injunction would be released if they agreed not to contravene the order again.

Hundreds of people opposed to the construction of the Coastal GasLink pipeline through Wet'suwet'en territory are planning to blockade dozens of government buildings in Victoria Friday.
