Water shut off after flooding spills out onto Highway 97

Hwy 97 becomes a lake

UPDATE: 4:20 p.m.

Water now appears to be shut off in the area causing flooding on Highway 97 in Westbank.

Angelo Medoro of MAC Plumbing & Heating sent in photos showing broken pavement where it appears a line break happened.

UPDATE: 4:05 p.m.

Police are on scene at flooding across Highway 97 near Gellatly Road in Westbank.

It appears a pipe break above the highway, in the commercial area near Wendy's and Tim Hortons, is reponsible for the water pooling on the highway.

RCMP have one lane closed southbound on the highway.

ORIGINAL: 3:15 p.m.

Motorists should avoid the area of Highway 97 and Gellatly Road in Westbank if possible.

One motorist contacted Castanet to say water is "gushing" from the area above the intersection.

Another witness said a van may have hit something in the parking lot near Wendy's, causing the flow of water.

The drive-thru is apparently closed and water has been pouring onto the highway.

We'll have more information as it becomes available.
