Avalanche control work ends, Highway 1 reopens

Trans-Canada reopens

UPDATE: 2 p.m.

DriveBC reports avalanche control work has been completed between Mount Revelstoke National Park and Glacier National Park, and also east of Rogers Pass Summit.

The highway has reopened and the scene is clear.


UPDATE: 9:45 a.m.

The Trans-Canada Highway has reopened between Revelstoke and Golden, DriveBC reports.

However, the highway will remain closed intermittently for avalanche control in conjunction with Parks Canada and The Ministry of Transportation until 2 p.m. as previously stated (see below).


UPDATE: 7 a.m.

Avalanche control work between Mount Revelstoke National Park and Glacier National Park will close the Trans-Canada Highway from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today.

DriveBC also reports Highway 3 is now reopened at Kootenay Pass.


ORIGINAL: 6:25 a.m.

The Trans-Canada Highway is closed this morning between Revelstoke and Golden.

A crash closed the highway in both directions overnight, and DriveBC reports no detour is available.

The highway is expected to reopen by 9 a.m.

Also, avalanche control between Rogers Pass Summit and Glacier National Park will see intermittent closures of up to two hours today, ending at 1 p.m.

Likewise, avalanche control work at Kootenay Pass on Highway 3 is currently underway, with closures until 7 a.m.

Meanwhile, yesterday's closure on the Coquihalla Highway 5 between Merritt and Kamloops due to a crashed semi was finally cleared about 11:15 p.m.

And, a closure on Highway 97 just north of 100 Mile House due to another crash was cleared about 11 p.m.
