Top Gun - the real deal

The cast of the Top Gun sequel underwent three months of sky-high training so they could all handle G-force without throwing up.

Top Gun: Maverick producer Jerry Bruckheimer insisted on the specialist preparation after revealing everyone but pilot Tom Cruise vomited when they first went up in an F-14 fighter jet for the original film, and scenes needed to be re-shot.

"We trained our actors for three months so they could get used to the G-forces, because we put them in the real F-18s," he told The Hollywood Reporter. "On the first movie, we were using F-14s and we put all the actors in there and every one of them threw up.

"We spent a fortune on filming them in a cockpit and the only stuff we could use was the stuff we had from Tom. He could handle the G-forces. The rest of them, their eyes were rolling in the back of their heads."

Cruise starred alongside Val Kilmer and Anthony Edwards in the original, while Miles Teller, Glen Powell, and Monica Barbaro appear in the new film, which also features a returning Kilmer.
