So far, January 2020 Vernon's fourth snowiest in past 30 years

That's a lot of snow

If it seems like January is a lot snowier this year than usual, that's because it is.

The first month of 2020 is not even over yet, and the region has already recorded one of the snowiest Januaries ever.

Environment Canada meteorologist Bobby Sekhon said as of Monday, Jan. 20 Vernon has received 71 cm of snow this month.

“So far that is the fourth snowiest on record since 1990,” Sekhon said Tuesday, noting several centimetres of the white stuff was predicted to fall Tuesday and Wednesday, adding to that total.

“If we add a few more centimetres to that by the end of the month, we could be in the top three.”

Not surprisingly, the snowiest January in the past 30 years was 2015 with a whopping 87 cm of snow.

Known as Snow-mageddon, the huge dump of the white stuff had locals shovelling out for days.

The second snowiest month was January 2018 with 79 centimetres with 1998 coming third with 71 cm of snow.
