Vernon Jubilee Hospital's 'Light a Bulb' raises over $315,000

Light a Bulb smashes goal

Vernon's holiday spirit burned as bright as the tree on top of Vernon Jubilee Hospital, as the Light a Bulb campaign was a resounding success.

The campaign raised over $315,000 for the VJH Foundation, far surpassing their goal for the season.

"The annual VJH Light a Bulb campaign officially closed on Dec.31, however with some holiday mail delays, donations were still trickling into our office this week,” says Kate McBrearty, the VJH Foundation executive director. "We are so grateful to each individual, family, and business that helped us surpass our goal. We truly do have such a generous community and we are incredibly thankful for your ongoing support."

The funds from the project will be funnelled toward purchasing essential new equipment for the hospital. Some of the equipment includes new bladder scanners and high-tech vital signs machines. These machines are used by virtually every patient that comes in to the hospital.

"This campaign touches the hearts of innumerable local residents. Some families come into the office year after year, some with their kids, a parent, a loved one, making giving part of their annual holiday tradition," says Kevin Arbuckle, the VJH Foundation president and the 2019 Light a Bulb Chairperson.

"Other people donate in memory of someone, or to thank a special person on a medical team or department for their work with family members or friends.  Each person has a story to share about why they donate."

The 32nd annual Light a Bulb is now officially over, so the red tree won't be lit again until the next holiday season.
