Vernon Salvation Army campaign behind las year's pace

Sally Ann donations lagging

With only 11 days left until Christmas, the Salvation Army annual fundraiser is lagging behind last year.

But officials are confident the community will come through and help them reach their $500,000 goal.

“First and foremost, we want to thank our community for their tremendous support. The funds that are raised at Christmas not only help out individuals and families during the Christmas season but it provides much needed support all year round,” said Lt. Stefan Reid of The Salvation Army – Vernon.

So far this year, the campaign has raised more than $183,000, some $23,000 behind from the same point last year.

“We are confident that the community will continue to support our efforts during this season and all year round,” said Reid.

People can donate in a couple of different ways.

They are able to drop off funds at any of the 11 kettle locations, or they can drop them off donations at the House of Hope at 3303 32nd Ave, or online at www.vernonhouseofhope.com.

“We encourage those in our community to help us in any way possible. We know that this time of the year can be challenging for many however it’s because of these generous donations that give people hope during the Christmas season,” said Reid.

More information on how to donate, or to volunteer, can be found online.
