Who's first No. 1 in 50 years

The Who are set to bag their first U.K. number one album in almost 50 years, according to Official Charts Company figures.

The band, now consisting of original members Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend, last topped the albums rundown with late bandmates Keith Moon and John Entwistle in 1971 with Who's Next, their only ever U.K. chart-topper.

However, their latest record WHO looks set to break their 48-year drought by toppling Robbie Williams' The Christmas Present from the summit of Friday's rundown, as it is leading the race by just under 6,000 chart sales in Monday's update.

There's less good news for a younger British star, however, as Liam Payne's debut album, LP1, is only on course to reach a disappointing eighth spot, after it was critically panned on its release and a track, Both Ways, was criticized for lyrics referencing bisexuality.

The Strip That Down hitmaker has got his excuses in early if his chart fortunes don't improve. He said he "doesn't judge success by sales any more" while promoting the record during an appearance on U.K. TV show Sunday Brunch.
