They 'oughta know' better

Alanis Morissette can't believe so many guys have taken credit for inspiring her hit You Oughta Know, because the song makes them look awful.

The singer released the angry anthem about an ex-boyfriend in 1995 but she has never revealed who the guy behind the track was, leading many to believe it was comedian and actor Dave Coulier.

Alanis is still refusing to name names but she's stunned so many guys want to be the "douche" in the song.

"I am intrigued by the fact more than one person has taken credit for it," she said during a Thursday night appearance on U.S. TV show Watch What Happens Live. "I'm thinking, 'I don't know you want to take credit for being the person I wrote You Oughta Know about.

"There's been about six people that have taken credit for it and I just think if you're gonna take credit for a song, where I'm singing about someone being a douche or an a**hole, you might not wanna say, 'Hey, that's me!'"

But the Ironic singer admits she's no longer angry about her lost love.

"I think I was just devastated when I wrote that and it was a lot easier to siphon that through anger," she added.
