Heavy snowfall warning issued for parts of B.C.

Winter snowfall warnings

UPDATE 10:15 a.m.

Environment Canada has now expanded its snowfall warning to include Highway 3 from Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass. Up to 25 centimetres is expected by Wednesday night.

“Heavy snow is accumulating now on Kootenay Pass. Five to 10 cm of snow is expected today over the pass, then a brief break through this afternoon,” the alert says. “Heavy snow will redevelop this evening with a further 15 to 25 cm expected overnight and on Wednesday. Snow will ease Wednesday evening.”

If you're headed east today be aware that Environment Canada has issued a heavy snowfall warning for several areas including the Shuswap, Boundary and  Columbia areas from Revelstoke to Golden.

Up to 40cm of snow could hit the Roger's Pass, the Arrow Lakes-Slocan and heavy snow is expected in the Shuswap as well.

A slow moving frontal system will remain over the BC interior today. Heavy snowfall associated with this storm will continue through tonight and taper off Wednesday morning. Snowfall accumulations of up to 40 cm are expected. Rapidly accumulating snow will make travel difficult. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.
