Pedestrian struck and killed in Kamloops was a TRU employee

Crash victim identified

The 54-year-old female pedestrian struck and killed by a truck in Kamloops on Friday has been identified by friends as Lucy Phua.

Darshan Lindsay, director of executive communications at Thompson Rivers University, says Phua was an employee at TRU.

The university's website lists Phua in the academic advising department.

"Our focus at this time is on supporting family members and our employees, and we will not be providing further information," Lindsay said in an email.

RCMP responded to the fatal incident at McGill Road and University Drive about 5:30 p.m. Friday. Phua was pronounced deceased on scene.

Kamloops RCMP Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says the collision happened in a marked crosswalk at the intersection.

"The victim was crossing in a marked crosswalk at the intersection of McGill Road and University Drive. The pickup truck was making a left hand turn on a green light."

The driver stayed at the scene and was brought to the Kamloops RCMP detachment to further the investigation. Police closed nearby roads for several hours.
