Two commercials and a movie shot at Big White

Filming on the mountain

While the hordes of skiers and boarders have yet to make their way to Big White's slopes, the resort has already been busy with film crews.

Earlier this month, a crew arrived at the hill to shoot a commercial, taking up 65 hotel rooms. Just this past week, Hallmark Channel was on site to shoot a feature film called Alice in Winterland. It's set to debut next year as part of its 2020 Winterfest lineup

“This is obviously great pre-season business to have,” said Trevor Hanna, vice-president of hospitality at Big White.

“It's helping orient our staff in a way that we couldn't do without real customers before the resort officially opens. We get the opportunity to host guests and practice before we open to the world, and economically, it's been a boom.”

Another commercial is scheduled to begin filming at Big White in December.

The off-season business is great news for Big White's restaurants and bars.

“Snowshoe Sam's is always grateful and happy to receive any business when we are open,” said co-owner Juliette Weaver.

“This time of year can be a little slower, so it is good to have the extra business for our staff to get used to our POS system and serving procedures.”
