Theft from low-income seniors facility has caretaker upset

Faith in humanity lost

Wendy Clark has lost “100 per cent” of her faith in humanity.

Clark is a resident and caretaker of an Armstrong seniors' home and was dismayed to find someone had stolen numerous items from a locked shed.

Three Links Lodge is a low-income facility for seniors with physical challenges and last week numerous items were stolen including an air compressor, chainsaws, weed whackers, gas cans and other garden tools.

Clark checks the building several times a day and she noticed the lock to the shed had been pried off.

“I've got a list of 31 things that were taken,” she said of the Wednesday night thefts.

The facility is run by Sunset Housing and the Odd Fellows.

“Some of the seniors are in their 80s and even their 90s,” she said. “It's 55-plus with disabilities.

“It's pretty disheartening that they would steal off not only seniors, but low-income seniors. Who would do that to another human?”

Clark said in the past few months, the facility has had flowers stolen or pulled out from the front of the building.

“This has been happening so much. You shouldn't be scared to go out of your own home and have to lock everything up,” she said. “I have zero faith in humanity.”

Police have been notified and are looking into the theft.
