A vehicle smashed into the front of the Bean Scene coffee shop

That's not a drive-through

Staff at a downtown Kelowna coffee shop were greeted by a surprise when they arrived at work Saturday morning, after a man drove through the front of their store.

At about 1:30 a.m., the vehicle crashed through the front door of the Bean Scene North location, on the corner of Ellis Street and Doyle Avenue.

“All the windows are broken and the metal frame in the door were all bent in,” said the coffee shop's owner Jennifer West. “It was kind of a nightmare.”

West says police officers on scene told her they suspected the driver was intoxicated, and he had refused a breathalyzer. West did not know if the driver had been arrested.

“They're not exactly sure how it happened, they think he was trying to turn the corner too fast, but just kept going and smashed into our front door,” West said. Luckily, no one was inside at the time.

Staff at the store have since cleaned up the mess for the most part, and are back to serving coffee, albeit with plywood across the broken windows.
