UBCO will host panel to discuss forest restoration

Combatting floods and fires

UBCO will host a community water forum on Nov. 19, to discuss the importance of forest restoration in combatting floods and wildfires.

The forum will include UBC researchers, Okanagan Nation Alliance representatives and a wild land fire ecologist who will be speaking from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at the Okanagan Regional Library in Kelowna.

The panel will focus on the way forests and water interacts and the role restoration plays in creating stronger ecosystems.

The Mountain Pine Beetle has significantly impacted the environment and caused damage through wildfires, floods, droughts and landslides.

This has impacted communities all over B.C. and the effects have threatened drinking water in addition to other cultural, social, environmental and economic values.
