If Nolan Foote wasn't high on Hockey Canada's radar for the upcoming World Junior Hockey Championships, he is now.
Foote scored twice in regulation time and added two more during a special shootout to deliver the 2019 CIBC Canada-Russia series to the CHL.
Team WHL lost the game 4-3 in a shootout evening the six game series, which also included games against the Ontario and Quebec leagues, at nine points apiece, necessitating an additional shootout to determine the winner.
Foote scored two of the three goals in the shootout, including the series winner.
“It was an intense game,” Foote said following the victory.
“They came out hard in the second period, and those power plays we had gave momentum to the team and guys were going. It was a hard-fought game and of course it went down to overtime and a shootout again, so it was fun.”
Russia built a 2-0 lead in the second before Team WHL's power play went to work.
Foote scored back-to-back goals to tie it before Ryan Chyzowski put the WHL ahead.
Russia tied it in the third, forcing overtime and, eventually, the shootouts.
