Glenmore bike theft caught on security camera

Bike theft caught on cam

Erin White was just getting home from walking her two dogs, when she noticed something odd from the corner of her eye – two bikes in her carport, one of which wasn't hers.

"I look, and one happened to be my husband's. The other one I didn't recognize ... My bike, which was here at the bike rack, was stolen and the thief had left it in replacement," says White.

"I know it wasn't a $5,000 road bike, but it was mine and I worked hard for it."

White was in her bedroom when the theft took place, which left an uneasy feeling.

"My heart sank. I felt almost violated. I felt we live in a pretty safe neighbourhood, and it was very upsetting. I'm still upset," says White.

Her husband, Jesse Sutherland, says they called police and shared security footage from cameras they'd recently installed.

"We all banded together one evening and said enough's enough ... so we all decided to get security cameras to help each other. It just hasn't seemed to deter people."

"In the extreme measures we've gone through, it costs a lot of money ... It's frustrating as a taxpayer, a person who doesn't steal things, or doesn't get the benefit of stealing things," says Sutherland.

"To the guys that are doing this – please stop," he added.
