Report suggests BC Ferries terminal at Vancouver International

Ferry terminal at YVR?

A new report on the future of BC Ferries is urging the provincial government to consider a new ferry terminal at Vancouver International Airport.

CTV News reports the document commissioned by the Ministry of Transportation suggests the province build “a new terminal on Iona Island near Sea Island, which has the potential to significantly reduce crossing times to Vancouver Island while offering better integration with YVR and the Canada Line."

Iona Island sits just north of YVR and is home to a wastewater treatment plant, regional park and large bird population.

The potential link to rail service connecting to downtown Vancouver had foot passengers at Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal excited.

"I think that's definitely a good idea," said one woman who spoke to CTV News Vancouver as she exited a transit bus. "It would make it a lot easier and people wouldn't have to wait for the bus as much. I think it would definitely be good."

Neither the provincial government or BC Ferries commented on the idea over the weekend. BC Ferries is holding general public consultations in the new year.
