Traditional German outfits were encouraged at the 2019 Penticton Oktoberfest.

If you spotted people wandering around the Penticton Lakeside Resort wearing dirndls and lederhosen Saturday night, you weren't imagining things. 

The annual Penticton Oktoberfest saw crowds of brew and bratwurst lovers gather to dance the night away. 

And for the first time, it also heralded the start of the first ever Penticton Beer Week. 

"The band is going, the beer is pouring!" said Kim Lawton, one of the Beer Week organizers.

She says Saturday's event is just the start of beer activities all week long, and the buzz is growing. 

"I was just in Vancouver for B.C. Craft Brewers Conference, and so many people were talking about it out there," Lawton said.

"We've had great exposure. it's so exciting to get started on our first time!"
