Third mountain bike related death this month

Biker dies in Whistler

A 35-year-old Burnaby man died last week following an accident on a mountain biking trail in Whistler, B.C. on October 9.

Ski resort Whistler Blackcomb confirmed the man was biking along the A-Line trail in the bike park when the incident occurred, according to CTV News Vancouver.

The man had been transported to Whistler Medical Clinic and was then transferred to Vancouver General Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

"Whistler Blackcomb and the entire Vail Resorts family extend our deepest sympathy to the guest's family and friends," said Geoff Buchheister, CEO of Whistler Blackcomb.

It has been confirmed the BC Coroners Service is still investigating, according to spokesperson Andy Watson.

Unfortunately, this is the third B.C. resident who has died in a mountain bike related incident.

Oct. 1 Mikayla Martin, a champion skier crashed while biking in Squamish and on Oct. 9 Jordie Lunn, a champion biker, also died in Mexico.
