Local film production seeks 'drop-in' extras in Kelowna

Calling hockey-loving extras

Calling all extras!

Solid Rock Video, a Kelowna production company is looking for volunteers who have always wanted to be an extra in a film.

Curtis Allen, owner of Solid Rock Video is encouraging extras to "drop-in" on Tuesday, October 22 prepared to participate or cheer in a street hockey game between 9:45 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

Allen says the project is for the Kelowna Gospel Mission.

"It's a promotional video and we are looking to humanize the homeless. A lot of times people are driving down Leon and looking the other way, we want to really show that these people are just in a different stage of life right now and there are still things that we have in common."

Michael Morrison, Director of Development, Kelowna Gospel Mission tells Castanet, "we want to show that the homeless are the same as anyone. It is certain situations that change our path. “This video can help to take away that negative picture.”

Allen says they decided to use a street hockey game because sports is something that has the power to bring us together, "It's something we have in common, and this video is about showcasing the things we all have in common.”

Volunteers of all ages are invited to the filming at 259 Leon Ave. in front of the Kelowna Gospel Mission. Hockey sticks will be provided. Wearing hockey jerseys is optional but encouraged.

Leon Ave. will be closed between Abbott St. and Water St. between 6 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Oct. 22 as well.
