Highway 1 snowsheds receive new LED sensor lighting

Snowsheds get lit

Construction has finished on the light replacement project in and around three snowsheds on Highway 1 east of Revelstoke.

The changes will significantly improve safety and visibility for people driving in and out of the Jack McDonald, Twin and Lanark snowsheds by providing consistent lighting.

A combined 576 LED sensor lights have been installed, replacing the halogen lights previously installed. Eighteen new light poles have been added and six high-pressure sodium lights were upgraded to LED.

The new lighting system is able to measure ambient daytime lighting outside and replicate it inside the snowsheds.

The $7.15-million project spans approximately 1.8 kilometres.
