Family pet shot in head with BB gun in Richmond

Cat shot in face with BBs

A Richmond family's cat was shot by what appears to be airgun pellets.

The Buckinghams found their cat, Mittens, last Thursday with his face covered in blood.

They rushed him to a south Vancouver vet, believing he had gotten into a fight or had been attacked by a raccoon. But, they were shocked when the X-rays showed several pellets lodged in his nose and neck.

“Our sweet cat mittens got shot in the face by a pellet gun,” Julia Buckingham said.

“He needed to be rushed to the vet, I didn't think he was going to make it holding him in my arms ... but he is a strong boy and he is doing well at the vets now.

The family is raising money to help pay for the $2,500 surgery to remove the pellets, and had almost reached its target Tuesday.

Buckingham posted Monday that “Mittens is around to live another day with our family.

“Once we come up with the money, Mittens will be getting his surgery."
