Warnings are being sounded in Kelowna's North Glenmore area after coyotes have become more aggressive in the neighbourhood.

One woman had a coyote try to grab her dog in her own backyard, according to posts on the North Glenmore Community Group Facebook page.

"We live at the end of Shanks Road, and a coyote tried to grab one of our dogs and tried to take him away," Angela Huber posted. "Luckily, my yelling and running towards him, made him drop my dog."

The pet was in the care of a local veterinarian after the attack on Sept. 16.

Residents have also posted warning signs along the Brandt’s Creek Linear Trail.

"Caution! Please be aware that two coyotes were seen roaming this park during the day," the signs read.

Grant Isaak says he also had an encounter with the wild animals.

Around mid-day on Thursday, he was walking with his dog down the trail when three coyotes approached and stopped just 15 feet in front of them.

Even though Isaak had his 76-pound Labrador on leash, the coyotes were unafraid.

"I yelled really loudly at the coyotes, so they jumped over the creek and ran past us on the other side," said Isaak. "By the time I pulled out my phone, I only managed to capture the last coyote on video.

"Other people I have spoken to on the trail have lost their cats recently," he added.
