Fire sends three to hospital

A fire damaged a Rutland townhouse Thursday evening and sent three people to hospital.

Just before 6:30 p.m., the Kelowna Fire Department responded to the 200 block of Briarwood Road and found flames coming from a second-storey bedroom.

Firefighters were able to knock down the fire before it extended into the roof and to other units.

The fire and water damage was contained to the single unit, and its four residents were unable to return home. They're being assisted by Emergency Support Services.

Three of them were taken to Kelowna General Hospital for minor burns and smoke inhalation.

Investigators have determined the cause of the fire is not suspicious.
