Liam Payne looked to former Calvin Klein underwear model Mark Wahlberg for inspiration when preparing to strip down for his new Hugo Boss campaign.

The One Direction singer appeared in the jaw-dropping ads earlier this year, and he reveals the actor had a hand in helping him get into the right mindset.

"I love Mark, he's amazing... when I got to the underwear commercial, the first picture I saw was a reference of Mark from years ago," he said in a new interview on Australian radio show Smallzy's Surgery.

Like Liam, Wahlberg was a pop star at the time of the CK promo in 1992, and the Brit admitted, "He is such a great role model to have in this business; he's also had a really similar lifestyle like the one I've had so far."

The 26 year old, who had the opportunity to train with Mark in Los Angeles prior to the shoot, also hopes to follow in his footsteps as a move star: "He started in a band, then you know he's doing the modeling and the underwear commercial, and obviously he's had an amazing career since."
