ORIGINAL: 7:30 p.m. Wednesday

Kelowna remains a popular spot for NHL teams when they want to get away from the bright lights of the big city.

The Edmonton Oilers will spend a few days in Kelowna prior to the start of the regular season.

Oilers GM Ken Holland, a Vernon native, mentioned the news in passing during a scrum with Edmonton media, Wednesday.

It's not clear exactly when the team will be coming, but the practice sessions will not be open to the public.

The Oilers will be the fourth NHL team to use Kelowna as a backdrop for practice.

The Detroit Red Wings, Anaheim Ducks and Dallas Stars have all skated at Prospera Place.

The rink was also used as a training camp for the 2006 Canadian Olympic men's hockey team.
