Brooks Lane condo bid back

Vernon's economic development planner recommends council approve rezoning for a 17-unit condo on Brooks Lane after the developer agreed to a restrictive covenant on the property.

Keltie Chamberlain said in her report to council that the properties at 7497 and 7501 Brooks Ln. be tweaked to allow the construction of a five-storey complex with one level of partially underground parking.

Tweaked plan for apartment

The original design and site plan called for a six-storey complex with additional parkade level, but that drew sharp criticism from area residents who cited concerns over site lines, traffic and parking in their feedback to council.

The restrictive covenant on the title would limit the maximum height. The proposed building would contain 17 strata units of 13 two-bedroom and four three-bedroom units.

"A previous application for the properties was brought forward to public hearing on June 24, 2019. The applicant has revised the proposed project from six storeys with parking under the building to a maximum five storeys for residential construction with a one-storey parkade partially built below grade in response to public input," the report states.

The number of units has been reduced from 19 to 17 units, the report said.
