Terry Fox Run this Sunday

The 39th annual Terry Fox Run takes place in multiple South Okanagan communities on Sunday.

The run carrying on the Marathon of Hope is one of Canada’s largest fundraisers for cancer research.

“The legacy of my brother – which has grown over the past four decades with the now global reach of the Terry Fox Foundation and its nine provincial offices, and the innovation of the Terry Fox Research Institute and its six regional nodes – will now serve to accelerate the adoption of precision medicine across Canada through the Marathon of Hope Cancer Centres network,” said Terry’s brother Darrell Fox in an op-ed for the Globe and Mail last month.

“As Terry’s family, we couldn’t be more proud and we all know that Terry himself would be so pleased to see his Marathon of Hope continuing in this highly collaborative way,” he continued. “He would be smiling that smile.”

Registration for the Penticton run starts Sunday at 8:30 a.m. at the S.S. Sicamous, with the run starting at 10 a.m. One, two and five kilometre routes are available.

In Summerland, registration will start at 10 a.m. before an 11 a.m. run start at the aquatic centre. One, three and five kilometre routes, along the Giant’s Head Run route, are available.

In Osoyoos, registration starts at 9 a.m. and the runs starts at 9:30 a.m. at the Sonora Community Centre. Distances of five and 10 kilometres will be available.

All three runs are also suitable for bicycles, wheelchairs/strollers and rollerblades. Dogs on leash are welcome. More info here.
