Pics: fire chief helps search

Penticton fire chief Larry Watkinson is spending the week in the Bahamas, alongside a team of urban search and rescue firefighters from Burnaby, digging through the rubble left behind by Hurricane Dorian.

Watkinson’s personal dog, Sammy, is a trained disaster response dog and is one of four canines that have made the trip as a part of the team.

He has been tweeting regularly from the Penticton Fire Department’s account, sharing some of the scenes of the devastation and crews at work in their search for survivors.

“A complex and successful day with ⁦[Burnaby Fire] USAR team working in Marsh Harbour of Abaco,” he tweeted Wednesday. “Sadly this shanty town has been devastated by Dorian.”
