Big news for Pride Society

The Kelowna Pride Society announced today at the Kelowna Visitor Centre that the LGBTQ community has received $100,000 from the Canada Experiences Fund, to boost events and tourism.

These funds are going towards enhancing the Pride Festival, a new initiative called 'Out in the Valley' and towards specific tourism training.

"The Canada Experiences Fund is a way of diversifying our tourist industry outside of peak season," Said Blake Edwards, co-president of the Kelowna Pride Society.

The new Out in the Valley event is also known as "the newest queerest wine festival in the region," according to Edwards.

"We've changed so much in the last 10 years, we've experienced growth so it's definitely more of an appealing place to come and be who you want to be," said Edwards.

The society is teaming up with BC Wine, Cider & Spirits to host the event which is set for Nov. 21 to 23.

"We are going to be using some of these funds to continue to promote our city as an inclusive, diverse community," said Colin Basran, Mayor of Kelowna.
