Stolen trailer found online

A Kelowna family is working to recover a trailer stolen last Monday.

"We were woken up by what sounded like somebody hitting our truck outside our window," says Tana Miller.

When she went to investigate, she noticed the trailer was gone. It just so happened there was a police cruiser passing by, so she flagged it down and reported the crime immediately. Once the theft was reported, she decided to post the incident on social media in hopes that someone would spot the trailer and help out.

It didn't take long. A woman spotted the trailer heading down Springfield Road in Kelowna. Another spotted the trailer in the McCulloch Station area and managed to follow it for a while and take a picture.

"As soon as the driver noticed he was being followed he started driving like a crazy person."

The Good Samaritan even called 911 but was advised to stop following the trailer for safety reasons.

Shortly after that, they received another report of the trailer being driven down Raymer Avenue towards Richter Street. Police responded, but were unable to catch the culprit.

Fortunately for the Millers, reports on social media continued to pour in. The trailer was spotted in Penticton and then OK Falls. But it wasn't until Wednesday they managed to find the trailer in Oliver.

"We got a message saying that the trailer had been found and its location was reported to police," says Miller.

The trailer was left on someone else's property, and its Vehicle Identification Number had been scratched off.

RCMP impounded the trailer, and the Miller's are hopeful they'll get it back soon.

Miller says "RCMP found a hidden VIN under the trailer hitch, but without a way to connect the person who took it, they may get away with the crime."

The ordeal has left the Millers feeling violated and they want the culprit brought to justice. They have yet to see the trailer and any damage that was done to it.

"People need to be held accountable!" she said.
