Dogs kill three ducks

A dog owner was fined after two of her Husky dogs killed three ducks and injured a fourth.

The incident happened earlier this month near the BX Dog Park in Vernon.

Pat Ellis, with dog control, said the owner of the dogs attended the dog control office about the matter before it was reported by the duck owner.

Ellis said it is the nature of dogs to chase something that is running.

Ellis said Huskies, as part of their nature, tend to be more aggressive than many other breeds.

“Huskies are kind of like a wolf, they have that predator instinct and it is very hard to get that out of them,” said Ellis. “They will go after anything small. That's not the norm, but it is in their nature.”

Ellis had some words of advice for all dog owners.

“People have to realize when their dogs are in a dog park – on leash or off leash – they must be under control of a competent person. What happens at a lot dog parks is people visit and they don't pay attention to what their dogs are doing,” she said.
