High-friction hwy test

Can high-friction road surfaces reduce intersection crashes?

The provincial government is testing the new aggregate and resin coating at 10 locations in the Lower Mainland and four more in the Victoria area.

The $3.9-million project is hoped to reduce rear-end collisions and reduce skidding.

The intersections and off-ramps chosen have shown a history of collisions and are located on Highways 1, 7 and 10 in Metro Vancouver and Pat Bay Highway in Saanich.

ICBC will be monitoring crash stats at the intersections to test the coating's effectiveness.
