Rockets in eye of the storm

Two members of the Kelowna Rockets will get a chance to showcase their talent with the NHL's Carolina Hurricanes next month.

Kyle Topping and Leif Mattson will wear the Carolina uniform at the 2019 NHL Prospects Showcase, Sept. 7 to 10 in Nashville.

The event features drafted rookies and invitees.

"It's super exciting," said Topping.

"Any time that you get the chance to go to a tournament like that it's an honour. It's going to be fun going with Leif, it will be a good experience for both of us."

Topping had 23 goals and 46 assists last season while leading the Rockets in both assists and point.

Mattson set career highs in assists and points last season while tying for second in team scoring.

"It's an experience that I'll cherish for sure," said Mattson. "I just need to go in show them what I can do. It's pretty cool having both Kyle and I go together."

Neither player has been drafted.

Washington, Tampa Bay and Nashville are also competing over the four days.

Topping and Mattson will likely meet up with some familiar faces during the event.

Both Nolan, and Cal Foote are eligible to suit up for Tampa.
