Teen vandals help fix mess

Two Port Alberni teens caught vandalizing the community’s heritage railcars are trying to make amends for the damage they caused.

"Hopefully it's a lesson learned,” Bill Walker of the Western Vancouver Island Industrial Heritage Society told CTV News.

"You're responsible for your actions and if you do something like this. You have to be responsible for it."

Walker was supervising the two teens while they cleaned up their mess. The pair was arrested at the scene last week after discharging fire extinguishers and smashing windows, causing $6,000 in damage.

The teens’ mothers demanded their sons volunteer to help with the repairs. The two have been charged with mischief and will appear in court in the coming months.

This is the third time the heritage site has been wrecked by vandals.
