Police catch runner, twice

A young Alberta man is facing charges after his second police chase in as many days involving the Revelstoke RCMP.

Police received a report Sunday afternoon about a black 2000 Honda Civic used to conceal stolen property from a road construction site about 35 km east of Revelstoke. Around the same time, RCMP were called about the vehicle driving erratically westbound towards town.

When officers located the vehicle, it failed to stop and swerved into on-coming traffic. Police later caught up to the car within Revelstoke, where the driver crashed into a concrete median rendering the vehicle inoperable.

Both occupants, two 19-year-old men from Alberta were arrested on a variety of charges and released. Shortly after the men’s release, the driver of the car, Jevon Gackle, allegedly stole a mountain bike and was again being chased by police through the city.

“The driver attempted to flee police and resisted arrest at which time a taser was deployed.”  Cpl. Thomas Blakney in a news release. “He was arrested and treated by EHS for minor injuries sustained from his fall to the ground.”

Jevon Gackle appeared in Salmon Arm court on Tuesday. He was released, again, after being read new charges of assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest and theft under $5,000. He’ll be back in court Sept. 4.
