Put carbon tax to work

Letter writer Jack Bradley raises a good question.

The government tells us the carbon tax is revenue neutral, which means the money they collect is returned to poor people who can't afford to pay the tax in the first place.

Never mind how much is wasted on administration costs of this fiasco of smoke and mirrors.

If only we had honest politicians in office who wanted to do the right thing for the environment and taxpayers.

I'm not totally against a carbon tax, if it persuades industry to find ways toward a smaller carbon footprint. I think the money collected should be used to set up an alternative energy factory with a research and development division to improve upon efficiencies and lower costs.

A factory with jobs, training, and a product that could be sold back to taxpayers or even worldwide. Imagine, Canadian-made products such as wind turbines or solar panels and all the electronics to support them – all made here, and maybe subsidized so everyone could afford one.

Think how this could make a positive improvement to our environment as apposed to what is happening now, with money shuffling doing nothing.
