Alleged groper sought

Metro Vancouver Transit Police needs the public’s help to identify a man who is alleged to have groped a woman on a SkyTrain.

Transit police say the alleged incident happened on July 25 around 11 a.m. on a SkyTrain that was between 29 Avenue station in Vancouver and Edmonds Station in Burnaby.

The suspect is alleged to have boarded the train and sat next to the female victim, pushing his leg against hers, according to information from Sgt. Clint Hampton of the transit police.

The man is alleged to have put his hand on her thigh and held it there “for several seconds,” police said, before getting up and exiting the station. He never spoke a word to the alleged victim, police said.

Hampton said in a video statement that what was “especially concerning” about the incident is the suspect was seen getting on and off other SkyTrains for about 90 minutes prior to the incident, indicating “predatory” behaviour. They believe there could be more victims.

The suspect is described as a South Asian or possibly mixed-race man in his early-to-mid 20s, between five-foot-seven and five-foot-nine in height and roughly 160 pounds. He was wearing a silver bracelet on each arm.
