Machete-wielding man shot

The Independent Investigation Office of BC has now taken over an investigation into a police-involved shooting in Surrey.

The incident happened at 4:17 a.m. Wednesday morning after RCMP received a report of a man, wielding a machete, chasing another man in an alley in the 10600 block of 135A Street in Surrey.

When officers arrived on scene they identified the man believed to have been wielding the machete. Dawn Roberts, Director in Charge, BC RCMP Communications tells Castanet, "During the course of the interaction with the individual, police officers fired their service pistols striking the man." The man was taken to hospital with non-life threatening gunshot injuries.

Surrey RCMP Serious Crime investigators are also on scene and the investigation is continuing. Surrey RCMP are looking to speak with additional witnesses who have not already spoken to police. Anyone who has any information is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.
